Major project launched in Spain with 180 DSD speed displays

Spain - Smart speed management instead of fines

The Spanish province of Badajoz is focussing on intelligent road safety instead of pure sanctions: As part of a large-scale project, 180 DSD speed displays (DSD smart) have been installed in order to sustainably improve driving behaviour.

A total of 172 municipalities - including 157 local authorities and 15 smaller local units - are already benefiting from the initiative. The devices are customised and display notices such as "Reduce speed" or "Attention school zone" to suit the respective area of use.

Highest quality and smart technology

The DSD speed displays from DataCollect stand for maximum durability, outstanding visibility and state-of-the-art technology. Thanks to highly sensitive sensors, they react at speeds as low as 3 km/h and can therefore also be used in traffic-calmed areas.

All devices are equipped with DSD Connect and are connected in real time to the traffic data system of the Badajoz provincial administration. This means that speed and traffic volumes are continuously recorded in order to identify hotspots and initiate targeted measures to increase road safety.

First results: Significant traffic volume and critical speeds

Data collection is already underway. Initial analyses show a high volume of traffic on many roads in the province. On some routes with a speed limit of 30 km/h, vehicles were recorded travelling far in excess of this. However, the reports then showed impressively how the displays actively led to a significant reduction in speed.

Efficient data management via the cloud

DataCollect's DSD systems communicate via LTE and can be easily and securely configured and analysed via the cloud solution. This enables intuitive and efficient management of all measuring points - from data acquisition to analysis.
