DSD radar speed displays are monitoring the canals of Amsterdam

The DSD speed display systems supplied by Data Collect to WATERNET will be installed on new locations to monitor more canals in Amsterdam .

The speed limit for shipping in the canals of Amsterdam is 6 km/h. Already an exceeding of  1-2 km/h causes major problems to WATERNET, the management authority of waterways. The banks of the canals are washed away by the waves and the houseboat owners are disturbed by the strong wave movement.

The challenges in the use of a speed display are the detection of objects on the water and the very low speed of the ships. Both problems were perfectly solved by the DSD radar speed display in a pilot project. After an initial 9-month deployment phase of 5 systems these are now being used at other locations to monitor more canals.
